Turning Patients into Participants
In the end, no research can be conducted
without subjects - patients or healthy volunteers.
As a result, at Trimanos we think of them as participants,
collaborators even. At the Jackson Foundation
some of the patients stayed loyal to clinical
research for thirty years. They volunteered for
many different studies.
If you learn how to make your patients
into participants and work closely with them you
will rarely have any difficulties either recruiting
or retaining their interest. Compliance is almost
a given.
At the heart of the Trimanos approach
is a recognition that patients, like the rest
of the research team, need to see the bigger picture:
we are all contributing in our way to advancing
medicine and improving outcomes.
