Clinical research is always challenging.
In my thirty years in the field, as head of the Jackson
Foundation for Research & Education in Madison Wisconsin,
and as co-founder of one of the world's largest associations
of clinical research professionals, ACRP, I have seen
great challenges and great changes.
But in recent times doing research well
has become more demanding than ever. Especially for
sites, anywhere in the world. Public confidence has
been shaken; the regulators ask more and more of site
personnel, in particular the physician-investigator.
The sponsors, whether they are developing drugs or devices,
are under increasing pressure to get products to market
fast.
Participants in trials, whether as subjects
or as patients, read bad press and see hostile TV and
wonder what risks they may open themselves to in taking
part, against uncertain benefits.
Trimanos was founded out of the recognition
that clinical research is one of the greatest undertakings
anyone can embark on, whether as researcher or as subject.
When done well, clinical research is rewarding to all
who take part, at all levels, scientific, medical, financial
and emotional. At the Jackson Foundation we had wonderful
relationships with patients over thirty years. What
we learn together will benefit us all, all over the
world. But we must do things the right way, with properly
qualified people and appropriately equipped facilities.
Trimanos will help get things right, throughout
the process. With my team of experts in all aspects
of conducting trials, including the very tricky tasks
of getting the right studies, recruiting and consenting
the patients, project and financial management, my goal
is to get the best from your site not just for one study
but for many more. Because clinical research needs you,
and needs you to do well.
