Airborne
Spread of FMD Virus

Enforcement of Movement Controls
|
|
In addition to domestic stock, wild ungulates are susceptible to FMD and
have been implicated in the epidemiology of the disease. Deer, wild antelope,
wild swine, and above all African buffalo have been linked to outbreaks
in domestic species. Control of movement, or separation of wild from domestic
species, must therefore form part of the FMD control measures in any region
where wild susceptible species are present in significant numbers.
