Disease Prevention

Control of Animal Movement

Meteorological conditions

Airborne spread of FMD is only a consideration where:

• pigs are present as the producer species
• relative humidity is greater than 60%
• there are light to moderate winds in a constant direction likely to pose a risk
• the 'atmospheric boundary height' is low resulting in minimal plume disruption in the atmosphere.

If these considerations are met, then movement controls and buffer zones must be tailored accordingly.
