Where natural geographic features do not exist, but there is a need to confine wildlife or separate domestic species of different disease status, then fencing should be considered. Suitable fencing is expensive to install and maintain, but has been used with great success in many countries in southern Africa, such as South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana. Double perimeter fencing has been used to great effect in Saudi Arabia to reduce incursions of FMD from nomadic flocks to intensive units. |
