Regaining FMD-free status after disease breakdown
Following an outbreak of FMD in a zone/country in which vaccination is not practised,
the following waiting periods are necessary to regain FMD freedom:
• Three months after the last case where 'stamping-out' and serological surveillance has been applied.
• Three months after the slaughter of the last vaccinated animal where 'stamping-out', serological surveillance and emergency vaccination are applied.
Following an outbreak of FMD in a zone/country in which vaccination is practised, the
following waiting periods are necessary to regain FMD freedom:
• Twelve months after the last case where 'stamping-out' has been applied.
• Two years after the slaughter of the last case without 'stamping-out', provided that serological surveillance has been carried out.
