FMD-free zones where vaccination is practised
These zones can be in countries where vaccination is not practised or disease occurs,
but where the FMD free zone is isolated if appropriate by surveillance zones, or
physical/geographical barriers, and movement control is practised.
Four conditions are required:
Record of prompt and regular animal disease reporting.
Documentation of effective control, surveillance and preventative measures in the whole
country.
Defined FMD-free zone and surveillance zone, and detailed measures for prevention of
virus introduction and surveillance and control measures within the zone.
Notification to OIE of intention to establish FMD free zone with vaccination,
routine vaccination measures with OIE approved vaccine.
