FMD-free zones where vaccination is not practised
These zones can be in countries where vaccination is practised or disease occurs, but
where the FMD-free zone is isolated by surveillance zones, or physical/geographical
barriers and movement control is practised, e.g., Zimbabwe.
Four conditions required:
Record of prompt and regular animal disease reporting.
Documentation of effective control, surveillance and preventative measures in the country.
Defined FMD-free zone and surveillance zone, and detailed measures for prevention of
virus introduction and surveillance and control measures within the zone.
Notification to OIE of intention to establish FMD-free zone, documentation of absence of
FMD for at least two years, absence of vaccination for at least 12 months and no
importation of vaccinated animals since cessation of vaccination.
