The standard tests for FMD diagnosis, recognised by the Office International des Épizooties (OIE) for the purposes of international trade, are described in outline in the 'OIE Manual of Standards for Diagnostic Tests and Vaccines'. Detailed descriptions of the individual tests are provided in this module under the relevant sections for antibody detection or virus/antigen detection. The quality of laboratory diagnosis is only as good as the quality of the samples submitted. Successful diagnosis depends on efficient collection of samples and their submission to a National or International Reference Laboratory following the approved procedures with the minimum possible delay. |
