Sheep and Goats - Feet and/or Legs

 

Foot Rot (Fusiformis nodosus)

 

Presence of interdigital dermatitis with underrunning of horn of claw. Strong odour of necrotic horn. Very severe lameness, affected animals walk on their knees. Commonly more than one foot is affected. Moderate fever in severe cases.

Differentiated from FMD by the absence of vesicular lesions, mortality among lambs and lameness accompanied by fever in a rapidly increasing number of animals in the flock.
