Differential Diagnosis

Cattle - Mouth and/or Nares

Vesicular Stomatitis

Presence of vesicles and/or erosions, and necrotic lesions in and around the mouth, especially on the cheeks and tongue. Excess salivation. In some outbreaks vesicular lesions may be few. Morbidity rate generally 5-10% except in dairy animals where it may reach 80%. Case mortality rate usually zero. Milking cows show sudden fall in production.

Differentiated from FMD by the absence of high case morbidity rate in all ages of animals, and mortality of calves.
