Presence of severe foot lameness, generally affecting one limb only. Moderate
fever (39-40ºC). Temporary depression of milk yield in dairy animals.
Swelling of the coronet. Fissure in the skin at the top of the interdigital
cleft. Edges of the fissure covered with necrotic material. Lesion has
a characteristic odour. Low herd morbidity rate.
Differentiated from FMD by the absence of high fever, vesicular and erosive
lesions, high morbidity rate and lameness affecting more than one limb.
