In calves, vesicles and erosions are usually less obvious and often difficult to find. As in the young stock of other species, deaths are not uncommon due to multifocal necrosis of the myocardium. The mortality rate in calves may be higher than 50%. In adult cattle it very seldom exceeds 3%.
